Glass ceiling, indeed. Women no longer have the problem of hitting their delicate heads on the glass ceiling, in fact there seems to be no ceiling at all anymore, which has left them drowning in the same goal oriented atmosphere they thought they wanted.
More than ever before women are opting to find work from home jobs, own their own businesses and set their own hours. There is a woman where I work that has five (5) children, although I personally cannot fathom that thought, she chooses to continue working. She went in to the partners' offices and negotiated flexible hours for herself. She now only works 20 hours per week, but they are never the same 20. She comes and goes from the office, sometimes several times per day, in order to weave in and out of her children's lives and the hustle bustle of the office. She packs more into a day than I can fit in a week.
With the “single mother” status quote ever rising, and the cost of childcare at an all time high, women are left with no alternative but to create a position whether it be with a current employer, or starting their own business be it at home or elsewhere.
It sorta makes the old adage “careful what you wish for” seem all to real.
