So, you think working in a store during the Christmas holidays would be fun? You think the Christmas spirit would move you more than usual? You say to yourself,” Oh the joy of it all. Being around the bustle and hustle of the crowd?” Let me be the first to say, “Hello?” Christmas is a very very tough time for clerks and management.
However, you can make the difference in their lives. Let me explain a little.
The first hardship for retailers is that there are a lot of preparations for this holiday. There is putting out the new merchandise which entails finding places in the store where to put it. There is the decorating of the store. And, there is the hope, that what the buyers bought probably six months earlier will sell at this time.
Another reason, Christmas is tough is usually the clerks and management are under a strict deadline of when all of the holiday merchandise is out and displayed in an appealing fashion. There is a lot of pressure put on employees to work harder, faster, and better than any other time of the year.
The very last reason, this is trying time for retailers are that the customers are sometimes at their worst in terms of being civil and polite. There is a lot of rushing, hurrying and sadly, abuse from certain people making purchases.
So, this year when you are shopping, be extra kind to the clerk behind the counter. You may be the joy of the day to him or her. It sounds trite. Yet, true. Have happy holidays.
