The pain and frustration of having a job that you hate must be overwhelming. Knowing that you will work your shift and be filled with anger and resentment makes that shift unbearable. The people around you can see your pain even if you can't.
People jobs are for people workers. Your must like the public even on days when they may seem a bit on tilt. You are a customer service person when you stand at the register. People are giving the store where you work their hard earned money to purchase their daily goods. Sometimes they buy food. Maybe they wish that it was a nice steak that they were buying instead of the ground beef on sale. Sometimes they have to bring the kids with them and refuse their desires for junk at the checkout. Sometimes Grandma has just found out that her loved ones were injured by a hurricane or worse...that a loved one has died. People jobs are for compassionate people.
Wal*Mart asks on the credit card pad..."Was your cashier friendly?". It is always hard for me to indicate "no" because I know what it is like to be a cashier. I know that the customer who "is always right" often is grumpy and surly. But I signed on to do a job. I have to uphold my end of the bargain because the customer...the cranky one and well as the quiet one...SIGNS my paycheck.
When the frustration of dealing with the public becomes too much, find another job...stop taking all that hate out on the people around you. You will be happier. And, employers...when did the employee stop having responsibilities to uphold the company's reputation? When we all begin to realize that life doesn't owe us anything, we will have a more productive society. Is this idealism...I hope so!
