Top Five Most Dangerous Jobs

Have you worried about yourself being seriously injured or killed on your job? The following jobs are the top occupations in America that represent the greatest hazard to the worker's health.

  1. Truck Drivers

With just under 1,000 fatalities involving this occupation in 2006, trucking currently is the most dangerous job. So, for every 100,000 employed, there are just over 30 workers that will die on the job. Don't think it could be you? Well, you are 99.971% correct, but that little percentage could be you… Don't think about it too much if you are a truck driver, but think about it a lot if you are thinking of going into the profession.
  2. Agricultural Workers

With just under 200 fatalities in 2006, agricultural jobs are the second most deadly. These 200 people were probably crushed in some sort of gruesome way, and there is a 99.977% percent chance that it will not happen to you if you are currently employed in agriculture. These numbers don't account for the tens of thousands of injuries (lost arms, legs, etc.) that occur.
  3. Construction Workers

With just under 400 fatalities in 2006, working in construction poses significant risk to your life. If you are employed here, you have the same percent chance of dying as if you were employed in agriculture. Wear your hard hat.
  4. Farmers and Ranchers

These two occupations recorded 341 deaths in 2006. For every 10,000 that are employed, 5 will die. Don't be one of those five… it'd be tragic to die by being strangled in a cornstalk or stomped on by a cow.
  5. Power Line Workers

This one seems a little more obvious than some of the other ones. However, this line of work suffered only 36 deaths in 2006. It must be all those safety precautions that they take. So next time you are about to complain to the power company that your power went out, think about the life you might save if you don't rush them.
  6. Orthodontists

    I'm just kidding…

There you have it! So next time you are looking for a job, try to stay away from one of these 5, because you will most likely be killed if you are extremely unlucky.
