When you get hurt on the job that is looking out for you and your best interests? NO ONE and you need to remember that since all of the Doctors and other people that you see may seem like they care however they are getting paid by your company that you work for to get you back to work.
So there are some things you need to remember:
- Keep all of your paperwork and follow the Doctors orders, do not let your employer bully you into doing stuff that may hurt you more
- Keep a journal of your injury from day 1 and the pain level you are having and if it is a good day or bad day, if anyone is making you do things at your job that you are not supposed to per Doctor's orders
- It is ok to talk about your pain, after all you're the one that is hurt and no one can say that you're not hurt or not in pain
- Co-workers may get upset and stuff since you can't do your normal duties, however they are not your boss or your Doctor and they can get in trouble for harassing you, contact HR and let them know what is going on or report it to your manager. Document everything.
- Do not agree to anything until you consult with legal counsel that has nothing to do with the company and their workmen's comp Doctor's
- Remember you have rights to be treated fairly and no one can threaten you with your job or offer you anything to get you to sign any kind of paperwork
- You also have the right to keep working your regular hours and they should not be cut unless your employer can give you a good explanation, if your Doctor gave you modified work orders your employer must follow them and accommodate you or contact HR to let them know that they can't accommodate the Doctors orders and then it will have to be dealt with through HR on what and where you will be working and the hours
- Remember your wellness and healing is very important and it is ok to try to do more with each day as long as it is not hurting you, discuss it with your Doctor and if you begin to hurt again you need to make sure you Document when and what you were doing at the time you began hurting again
- Remember that you have to live your life even in pain and you have to do your regular family duties even in pain, the company is not going to send anyone to your house to help you take care of your family, just take it easy and do not over do it. Baby steps.
