Many times the same person's who escaped violent circumstances or feel the obligation and responsibility to give youth and the adolescent a place to "hang out" and grow are its donors and supporters. YMCA, Covenant House and more recently Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA).

Boys & Girls Club of America gives its mission as "To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens"  How did this all get started. The year 2006 marked the 100 year anniversary of BGCA, originally started by two Hartford, Conn. women who saw the opportunity to give a place to young teenagers and young adults a place to grow and develop.

Boys & Girls Club of America have two honorary members of the Board of Directors, George and Laura Bush. While recent changes in the programs of BGCA haven't changed, the position of Chairman-elect, by the board of BCGA has chosen Robert J. Bach to head BGCA beginning 2009-2010. Mr. Bach presently serves in the leading capacity of Microsoft's Entertainment group. Mr. Bach has been with Microsoft since 1988, where he serves the five global divisions of the entertainment group. His new capacity will allow him to take on an added responsibility to BGCA in the capacity of Chairman. Mr. Bach believes deeply in the ability of BGCA to change the lives of Boys & Girls of America for the better.

Programs that Enhance Kids Lives

BGCA has such programs as Youth of the Year , Keystone Club or Torch Club. Each of these clubs within BGCA has the capacity of getting kids involved in creating and implementing communities in the larger local communities they live in, teaching by experience, to make positive changes in others lives.

Uniting Kids Across America

Boys & Girls Clubs are in every state and touch the lives of about 1.9% of the total population of America or the population of the state of Colorado. BGCA boasts of some famous alumni , some who serve on the Board, as Denzel Washington; others like Michael Jordan or President Bill Clinton or Bill Cosby have an impact on kids they once shared common ground with at BGCA.
