Attention-getting Material

According to Dr. Bernarr D C, 70% of the people out there didn't notice that they have a habit which they have been harboring since childhood and it might have become second nature. While the report on Askmen.com stated that most men that are smoking always keen to quit but didn't know the right ways. These figures show that almost of us have an unpleasant habit whether we realize it or not and we always wanted to get rid of it but didn't know the proper ways, yet. So today, allow me to discuss about ways to break bad habit.

Establish Credibility

I became interested to talk about this topic base on my experience. My cousin love to buy shoes when she goes shopping. The problem is, she always wears the same pair of shoes but, she kept buying a new pair although she realize she won't actually wear it. She ask my opinion about the problem. So I learned more about how to stop bad habit by reading books and articles to help me get rid of my bad habit. Then, I further my research by asking people about their bad habit and ways to stop it.

 Thesis Statement

There are three ways to break bad habits which are know and examine yourself, find healthy replacement and ask for a support.{Transition : Let me start with the first way to break bad habits which is know yourself}

The first way to break bad habit is you need to know and examine yourself.

You must aware of your bad habit. Try to figure out when you starting to get used to it and why you are doing it. Then, ask yourself whether you are ready to quit the habit entirely? Dr. Bernarr on his article titled "Break All Our Bad Habits by Following the Cure Indicated below Which Always Works" said you need to acknowledge your desire to quit and to cultivate an attitude of avoidance.
{Transition: Since you've examined and known yourself well, you should find an alternative}

 Next, you need to find healthy replacement for your bad habits.

You need to replace your habit with healthier and better replacement. Do something that you are passionate about yet it is healthy like playing sports, collecting stamps, dancing and more. For example, you can get rid of smoking by exercise regularly, eat more fruits and vegetables, etc. If you want to break your internet addiction habit, you can reduce your time when surfing the internet. An article titled "Creating a Better Life" on The Star dated 27 December 2006 stated that you need to try to catch yourself when you find yourself doing the habit and stop yourself as soon as you can. Start the alternative behavior you decided you wanted to do instead. {Transition: Now let us move to the last and most important ways which is asking for a support.}

 The final way is to ask for a support.

Let your family and close friends know that you are trying to break your habit. Ask them to remind you when you are doing your habit. Maybe you can reward them for example by treat them to a nice dinner if you are enable to break your habit entirely. Askmen.com said that whenever you indulge yourself, have those close to you bring it to your attention, since the habits are frequently involuntary. It's often a good way to strike your pride and will help you in the motivation department. {Transition: Before ending my speech, I hope by now, all of you may have an idea to break your bad habit}

Conclusion:

Keep the Relationship on Slow Pace

Online Dating can be fun...even exciting. It can open new and interesting relationships for you. Who knows? You might even find the love of your life online. Why not? You can find everything else.

However, you do need to follow some simple guidelines to make your Online Dating experiences not only fun but safe, as well.

The world is full of nice people but there are a few bad apples so you will need to protect yourself. If you haven't yet tried Online Dating, here are a few things to consider.

Start Slow

The first thing is to start slow. Use only reputable Online Dating services. Trust your instincts about prospective dates. Remember the old saying, “If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

Warning! Be very careful not to give out too much personal information to strangers. Never give your real name, address or phone number. Do not reveal where you work. Get a free email account like Hotmail or Yahoo! and do not give your “real” email address until you know a person well.

Use good common sense and due diligence about trusting people. We all want to trust and to be open. But it's not a good idea to do that until you are well acquainted with a person you have never met before.

Tip: Don't limit your contact to just online chats. Talk on the telephone after you are comfortable giving your phone number. Ask for a picture, too, preferably a recent photo.

Don't be pressured into a face-to-face meeting until you are comfortable with it and then make the first meeting in a public place. Arrange with a friend to call you during your first meeting to be sure you are safe.

Online Dating can be not only fun but rewarding. It does have pitfalls so just use your common sense and stay safe.

Something Else You Should Know

Even as you start slow, you should keep the relationship on a pace you are comfortable with. Don't rush!

It's also important NOT to reveal EVERYTHING about yourself in too short a time span. While protecting yourself is partially the reason, the other good reason is that you don't want to “spoil the suspense too soon” or “burst the bubble” like some would like to quote.

For example, if:

You are an avid tennis player,

You love to play the guitar,

You like reading science fiction,

You admire some celebrities, and so on,

It is best NOT to reveal all these to your chosen partner too soon. Dispense your personal information bit by bit, progressive by time, in as much interesting a person you can be.

This is often the weakness of interesting people - they tell everything about themselves so much so it's difficult for their partner to digest.

While it is perfectly understandable one would love to share his or her interests with his new found partner across the line, the consequence is often bad when he or she runs of out interesting things to tell.

Call it a way to quickly kill the future conversations and reasons to meet the other person online, if you want to, but given the several reasons, it is ideal if you reveal your personal information and interest on a progressive manner, in the name of personal safety or not.

Online Dating Mistakes That Should Avoid

Luck doesn't necessarily have much to do with making a great relationship when you are dating online.

There are lots of things that you can do right and even more that you can do wrong. If you really want your online friendship to turn into a real and romantic relationship, you need to follow some guidelines.

Online Dating Mistake #1: Profile Discrepancy?

The first one is that if you are going to post a picture of yourself or send a picture to an online friend, make it a picture of you and not some really beautiful/handsome friend. Sooner or later you might meet this person and the truth will come out anyway. So be honest. Don't describe yourself as thin and 5'3” or really "buff” and 6"1” unless that is true.

Online Dating Mistake #2: Not Being Punctual!

When you make a date to chat online or talk on the phone, be there and be there on time. You need to put forth the effort to keep the relationship going, too. If you don't, the other person will soon lose interest and move on.

Online Dating Mistake #3: Detouring the Conversation into Timbaktu!

Make your conversations interesting and realistic. Don't just joke around and make “cute” remarks. Find interests you have in common like music or movies. You'll need to get around to talking about goals and values. Pay attention. You can learn a lot about a person's views on love, respect and commitment.

Online Dating Mistake #4: Expecting Perfection from Your Partner

Don't expect to find Mr. or Miss PERFECT. They do not exist. All humans are flawed. The point is to find ones with flaws you can accept. It's the little quirks and idiosyncrasies that make each of us different and interesting.

Online Dating Mistake #5: Rushing Your Relationship on a Freight Train

Rushing into any relationship is always a mistake. Take your time.

Get to know the person well enough that you feel comfortable and at ease when talking to them and really hate to see a conversation end.

Then, and only then, will you be ready to meet them in person and take your relationship to another level. You need to be the best of friends before you can be in love.

Language Skill

So, they need a good language teaching from the teachers. A good language teaching is very important especially to deliver all those four skills. Besides the language skills, the pupils also have their “own” world or theme to understand. If we refer to the English Primary School Curriculum Specification, there are three worlds that pupils must understand it. There are World of Self, World of Knowledge and World of Stories. These three worlds are very important to classify each topic that pupils need to learn. Here, we want to evaluate these four language skills through variety of activities in the classroom using the theme, World of Stories. As we know, there are many activities that teachers can do to develop pupils understanding about these four language skill based on theme, World of Stories.

The first skill is listening. What is listening? Listening can be defined as pay attention to what someone is saying or to a sound that you can hear. Listening skill is very important in our daily life, and according to Wilga Rivers (1981), we listen twice as much as we speak, four times as much as we read and five times as much as we write. So, to teach this skill, teacher can provide many activities to develop pupils understanding. The first activity that we can do is listening to the animal's sound. First, teachers play the sound and let pupils listen to that sound. It is better to play it twice, so that, the pupil can listen it clearly. After that, teacher let pupils guess the name of animal that provide the sound. Then, teacher asks simple questions based on that sound. The teacher can sure that the pupils able to understand and master this skill when they can answer questions correctly.

The second activity that teacher can choose is listening to the jazz chants. The teacher must chant it clearly. After that, teacher let the pupils listen carefully. Then, the teacher can evaluate the pupils understanding by let them note down the keywords, which is the difficult words in the chants. When they are able to list down the keywords, that's mean the pupils listen deeply when the teacher chanting.

The last activity that teacher can do to develop this skill is tell a story. To make this activity more attractive, teachers can use the puppet to tell the story. When pupils enjoy this activity, they can listen carefully and give more focus on that. Teacher must tell it twice to make pupils fully understand the story. Then, teacher gives the handouts to the pupils. The handouts are based on the story. Then, let the pupils complete the missing words in that story. So, the pupils must remember the story. Here, the pupils use this skill. The teacher can know either the pupils understand or not according to the numbers of correct answer.

The second language skill is speaking, and it is important as a communication tools and making relationships with others. According to Carl W.Buechner, “they may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel”. When we speak, we must use the correct words, pronunciation and the intonation. Through this way, we can deliver the skill perfectly to the other person. To develop pupils understanding on this skill, teachers can do a lot of activity like role-play, story telling and game. The first activity that teachers can do is role-play. With role-play, teachers can create the situation for pupils to act. This activity can be done in pairs or groups. Pupils also can create their own situation to act. But, the most important thing here is every pupil must speak. It is because the language is not important but we want to see either pupil is able to speak in front of the whole class or not. Besides that, we want to see either they can play a role very well or not.

For the second activity, teacher can do a story telling to evaluate the pupils understanding. This activity can make the pupils brave to speak or deliver their story. Teachers call the pupils to come out and let them tell a story that they had chosen. It is better for the pupils to tell a story without refer to the text. Besides that, teachers also can create mini story telling competition among the pupils in the class. Teachers must prepare a present for the winner. It is to make the pupils like this activity. From that, we can sure the pupils are able to understand this skill when they brave to speak using correct pronunciation, intonation and good language. For this activity, teachers can give some guidance.

Next, the teachers also can make a puppet show. First, the teacher needs to guide pupils to make a puppet. But, the puppet must suitable with the characters in the story. After that, the pupils must act in front of the whole class using the puppet that they provide. They can use their own creativity to provide the puppet. The pupils must speak or act among themselves. Here, we can see either the pupils can deliver their speech using puppet or not.

And, the last activity for develop speaking skill is a game. It's better for teachers to create the language game. Teacher can draw a ladder on the board and each space on the ladder has a picture of vehicles. This activity can do in groups. First, let the pupils move the marker according to the numbers they get from roll a dice. When the marker stop, the must say the name of that vehicles. For example, the marker stop on the picture of lorry, so, the pupils must said, “lorry”. From the word that was saying, the pupils must make a sentence orally and say it aloud. From all those activities, teachers can build up pupils understanding about this skill when they are able to speak or say something.

The third language skill is reading. For your information, reading merely involves the ability to sound the words printed on page. It is important for us to realize that reading is much more complex than this. Like Andre Gide say, “to read a writer is for me not merely to get an idea of what he says, but to go off with him and travel in his company”. So, to understand and master this skill, we must learn it details. In school, teachers must develop pupil's skill through the activity in classroom. One of the activities that teachers can do is using a big book. Through big book's activity, the teacher can do a shared reading. To do a shared reading, first, teacher sits on chair in front of the whole class and gets the pupils attention. Then, teacher reads the story. After that, teacher asks the pupils to read together. Then, teacher calls one of the pupils to come out and read the story for the whole class loudly. When the pupils can read the story very well, that's mean; the pupils had mastered this skill. Teacher can give some guidance if the pupils cannot read it very well.

Another activity that teacher can do to evaluate pupils understanding about this skill is labeling. As we know, the classroom has a nature table, a "shop", a model town, a model house with furniture. Pupils are asked to talk about the objects and to label the objects with prepared labels. The labels should be removed so that pupils can re-label objects for practice. On this activity, pupils read when they want label the objects. They must read what the teacher writes on the card for labeling. Teachers can sure that the pupils had mastered this skill when they read and match the labels with correct objects.

Teachers also can do reading and telling activity. This is a very simple description of animals, birds, objects or people are written on small cards. Pictures or words to match the descriptions are put in front. A pupil comes out, pick up a card from the pack, reads it and identifies the correct picture or word. This activity is like a riddle but it has a picture. So, the pupils understanding about this skill can be evaluating when the pupils can read and identify the picture or word correctly.

The fourth or the last language skill that pupils must master it is writing. Writing is very important in our daily life. It's like a soul. According to Lord Byron, “if I don't write to empty my mind, I go mad. As so that regular, uninterrupted love of writing, I do not understand it. I feel it as a torture, which I must get rid of, but never as a pleasure. On the contrary, I think composition a great pain”. From that, we can see that writing is valuable and important. At school, teachers must deliver this skill to their pupils and there are many activities that teachers can do to deliver this skill. The first activity that teachers can do is write a composition based on the picture series. Firstly, teachers give pupils a series of picture. Teacher let the pupils write simple sentences based on the picture series given. Before this, teachers give some example. Teachers also show the pupils one sentence that the pupils can understand. After the pupils finished write a short essay, teachers ask pupils to come out and write the story on the blackboard. Teachers can give some guided about the grammar usage.

The second activity for developing writing skill is describing a process. This activity must fully guided by the teacher. Firstly, the teacher puts up the pictures illustrating the process, including a list of materials. As an example, the process to make a paper necklace. The materials are a tube of glue, a glass-headed pin and the others. Then, teacher questions pupils to elicit sentences about the pictures. He then puts up a jumbled list of sentences describing the process. For example, “put some glue on the last inch from the point of triangle and finish rolling up the bead”. Then, pupils select sentences from the list of sentences provided. These sentences are read aloud as the teacher points to the pictures. After that, pupils write the sentences in the correct order describing the process. When pupils can write the sentences in correct order, it's sure that the pupils understand this skill.

Besides that, the teacher also can use an origami book activity. Through this activity, teacher must teach the pupils the way to provide an origami book. Pupils can write the story on this book based on the previous story that they had learn before. After they write, the teacher must let the pupils to write on the blackboard. The teacher can evaluate the pupils understanding when the pupils are able to write the story correctly. Besides that, teachers can make a competition for the origami book. For example, the pupils must write the proverbs on the origami book using the handwriting. Here, teachers can assess the handwriting to decide the winner.

As a conclusion, these four language skills have consequences on each other. So, the pupils need to master all these language skills and the teachers need to deliver their skills to the pupils through the suitable activities. The teachers also can use good materials and create a good learning environment in the classroom. Besides that, pupils must take part in all the activities that teachers do, so that, it's easy for them to understand each language skills. The teachers need to guide the pupils.

Smoking in Public Places

Are they can release their tension too, or they will get the secondhand smoke? Actually, smoking can give lots of negative effects for the smoker and the secondhand smoker. Smoking can harm our bodies in many ways, but it is especially harmful to the lungs of a person with asthmas. Tobacco smoke is a powerful trigger of asthma symptoms. That is why I am extremely agreed that, smoking should be banned in the public places so that the nonsmoker will live in the pink of health. Below are reasons why smoking should be banned in public places.

Usually, smokings are allowed at the sideways, restaurant and also at the community centers. These places have many people including the children. Let says, there is a smoker at those places; automatically the people surroundings will be the secondhand smoker. Usually, people don't smoke because they understand the danger of smoking. But, what we worried about is the secondhand smoker. It is because the secondhand smoke may be the main factor in causing to a number of health problems. Mostly, the secondhand smoke will irritate our lungs and it also can reduce the oxygen in our blood.

Furthermore, the secondhand smoke can harm the cardiovascular system of nonsmokers in many ways. For one thing, it causes coronary heart disease, such as a heart attack. It also can damage blood vessels. The secondhand smokes also will effects for the other people especially the children. The effects are worst during the child's first five years, since the child may spend the size of that time with smoking parents. The secondhand smoke will disturb the child physical and cognitive development.

Then, how to protect the nonsmoker from get the secondhand smoke? Of course the banning smoking in public places is the best ideas, but it is not easy to execute. The government must do lots of things such as to determine what public places will be smoke-free. It is depends on recommendations of the people. However there are several ideas for the nonsmoker to avoid them from the secondhand smoke. Firstly, they must always take the `nonsmoking` option that is available. Today many restaurants have nonsmoking sections and the hotel offer nonsmoking rooms and floors. Furthermore, at the office, you can ask the smokers if they would not smoke around you. You also can use a fan and open the window to keep the air moving. But, the best way is not smoke. If the smoker concern about the other people health, they are not smoking at such places. The government also should make a campaign to avoid people from smoking. It is very important to expose about the danger of smoking for public.

In other hand, the government also must punish the person who cannot obey the rule. The smoker must pay a fine. Other than that, The Ministry of Health also must find the best way to stop this smoking habit. When all sectors get together, they can stop the smoking.

As a conclusion, the government must stop the import of cigarette or increase its price even the country get an income from that to make this country as a clean from smoker. Through this way, we can be an example to other countries.

The Evaluative Commentary

I had made a summary of the arguments about the banning smoking in public places. I had chosen this topic because in order to make the smoker become aware about the effects of smoking and the secondhand smoke. This topic also can make the nonsmoker know about their authority in public places. The nonsmokers must get the good and fresh air in the public places.

In order to consider my audience about the arguments, in the first piece, I have mentioned that about the effects for the smokers and the nonsmokers. In the second piece, I have mentioned about what places are allowed for smoking.

In the summary, I have used the technical vocabulary and long sentences because I think this sound more impressive and effective. In my first draft before, I didn't think that it sounded very persuasive so I had used some different ideas and extended on them. An example of this is the long sentence at the end of the last paragraph, when I explain that the nonsmoker must excellent to take an action in order to avoid them from the secondhand smoke. I think that my piece is very effective and will influence the nonsmoker to be brave to safe their life.

When the smoker read about this summary, they will feel guilty and want to stop from smoking at all. It is because, they will realize the danger of smoking and the effects for the nonsmoker.
