The Issue of Counterterrorism in Politics

Those paid to be analytical must simultaneously retain the ability to use abstraction for the highest amount of effectiveness in their career. Counter-terror analysts enjoin many facets of knowledge to coordinate an effort to stop acts of politically motivated mass murder, as well as innovate techniques. The need for structured creativity and imagination in such a complicated task is of high importance, considering most civilians could not begin to imagine the realm of possibilities regarding acts of terrorism.

Primary in the fight against international terror is the ability to analyze the potential for attacks on a given target. This can often be generalized, depending on the validity and reliability of sources, although threats can be specific as well. Targets typically include large infrastructure and other centers of socioeconomic activity that provide a substantial civilian population count at various times of day. Because of the broad range of locations that this spectrum encompasses, a counterterror analyst must consider any amount of varying places that may be on the list of a terrorist group for illegal activity. Included are nightclubs, cafes, government and embassy buildings, buses and other public transit, even hospital emergency rooms. Hence, demographic data must be collected on each place so that possible damage at its worst can be calculated as accurately as possible.

More to take into thought is to explore the realm of what will cause the most impact with the least amount of effort and manpower. With a single person, for example, a bomb strapped to his or her chest and detonated in just the right location can have an extremely devastating effect, with only one loss to the antagonizing side, but the potential for many casualties for those not associated with the murderous group. Analysts often have a very graphic mind, as they need to be able to envision the worst case scenario. Sometimes, if they lacked proper moral and ethical structure, they themselves could easily be effective terrorists because of their morbid mental capabilities.

Counterterror agents must have excellent research skills. They need to make connections on the inside of terror circles, which can be extremely dangerous if not done with proper finesse. Interrogation experience will also lead them to develop nontraditional ways of retrieving information from a source or suspect. They could utilize very unconventional manners in which to obtain this, sometimes breaking international law for the safety of the multitude. The necessity for this is stemmed from terrorism being “the deliberate and systematic assault on civilians to inspire fear.” (Netanyahu, Fighting Terrorism, 8)

Terrorist organizations have carried out a multitude and quite a variety of attacks, hence fulfilling the declaration made within the definition of terrorism by ex-Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu (who also fought in an elite anti-terror unit in his younger years). Take into account the amazing creative thought held by the Central Intelligence Agency employees who, before the fact, figured out that an attack upon large buildings via plane crash could eventually be a reality, which was indeed eventually carried out by terrorists operating under the umbrella Al-Qaeda network. Unfortunately, lack of imagination on the Israeli side resulted in the death of an infant, who was shot by a sniper while held tightly in her grandfather's arms. This act proved the importance of violent yet inventive thought processes in the mind of a counterterror analyst, so as to imitate that of a terrorist themselves.

To take pre-emptive, preventive measures, it is necessary to brainstorm these unfortunate and harmful ideas. If the possibility of a baby being directly spotted for termination by a hostile sniper was known beforehand, then a security fence or additional security camera could have been placed in the most dangerous locales. Regarding the internationally known threats towards mass transportation, discos and coffee shops, it is ideal worldwide to install advanced x-ray scanning machines and retain well-trained armed personnel at the entries to each business or transit station.

The position of a counterterror analyst demands an open-mind and broad spectrum of thought, as it is a strongly mandated occupation in the modern multinational global society. If terrorism is left to continue its offensive moves against lands where the people cry for democracy over tyranny it will not remain at the same pace, but develop into a more popular and widespread form of spreading fear amongst others to obtain inessential fascist political gains. Yet, despite terror seeming eternally inevitable, even unassailable, one must understand that it can indeed be vanquished with proper utilization of available resources.

The Real Politics of the Middle East

More prevalent of a feud has been the comparatively recent one between the Jews and the Arabs that claim to be illegally occupied by the descendants of Israel. Peace processes have highlighted the last decade and a half to try to have varying issues resolved. Despite agreements made with supervision of foreign dignitaries, certain stipulations that were key in the peace agreement were not upheld by one side, even though the people yearned for accordance. The side that did not stick to its part of the deal represents the Arabs living in the highly disputed land. The Palestinian Authority government exploits its citizens' devotion to religion by directing their beliefs toward hatred of the worlds' Jewish population and into a political goal to eradicate the State of Israel.

It is important to note that the Palestinian Authority is a working government. It was formed out of the Palestinian Liberation Organization, a terrorist group that used murder of innocent civilians to reach a political goal. The citizens that will be referred to are citizens of the Palestinian Authority and not that of Israel. Any treatment of such citizens is in control of the Palestinian government, as they are the responsibility of it. The few Arabs living in the Palestine Mandate of Britain that did not pay heed to the recommendations of surrounding Arab nations to flee their homes in 1947 and 1948 to remove themselves from the path of an offensive war against the new State of Israel did become full Israeli citizens with complete rights as such. Their children and descendants to this day still hold full citizenship and enjoy equal rights to those of any other Israeli. The Arabs of the Palestine Mandate who fled, as they were promised their homes would remain when the Arab nations that attacked Israel won, are not Israeli citizens. Their descendants have the opportunity to become citizens of the Palestinian Authority, and many have taken advantage of this chance.

Historians of the Palestinian Authority make claims that Jerusalem and Israel as a whole rightfully belong to Arab Muslims and no one else. This is done in many fashions, but is well exemplified by an educational television production on PA-TV. The main points of the program all summed up to the conclusion that “Israel's Biblical history is Arab Muslim history,” (Hutchens, 5) not that of the Jews. The head of the Palestinian Authority public library, Dr. Jarir Al-Qidwa, and the former head of the PA University's history department, Dr. Issam Sissalem were the key presenters on the show. Both children and adults who have viewed this program are presented a distorted timeline and genealogy. They are lead to believe that Palestinian Arabs are the true Israelites and have the full, sole right to the land in which they reside. It produces minds that cannot comprehend historical facts and the entitlement of others to self-determination.

The television in the Palestinian Authority controlled areas is also controlled by the government, so much so that they even have their own channel called Palestinian Authority Television (PA-TV, for short). A production presented on the channel that represents the mind set of top Palestinian decision makers featured Dr. Ismaail Radwaan, who proclaimed, “Oh Muslims, prepare yourselves for the struggle with world Jewry so that your's will be the winning side. As though Allah's wisdom clarifies that the winning side in the struggle with Jews will be the Muslims.” (“Islam's War with World Jewry”) Palestinian citizens are encouraged to fight against the Jewish population, as their god has empowered them with the ability to conquer and eliminate each and every "Yeud" (Jew, in Arabic) that exists across the globe. It shows them that it is not a fight for land, but a fight about religion, as to make their god greater. For example, “Allah Akbar” literally translates into “our god is greater.”

Each Friday, the Muslim holy day of the week, a sermon is broadcast on the Palestinian Authority Television network. Sheikh Ibrahim Mudayris has frequented the position of sermon deliverer. Nearly each one has called for the destruction of Israel, which he also commonly predicts will indeed soon be destroyed. In spring of 2005, he gave a speech not unusual to any other, stating that, “The Hour [Resurrection] will not come until the Muslims make war against the Jews and kill them” (“Untitled Weekly Islamic Sermon”). Any partially devout Muslim who hears this will believe that the Sheikh has done thorough research into the subject. Clearly incitement speech, those who follow the ways of Islam, those who yearn for the resurrection of their messiah, will feel it their duty to take upon themselves the massacre of any Jews they come across. Unfortunately, the news has shown this played out many times, but does not keep record of the almost countless failed attempts, for it is the successfully carried out plans that make headlines.

A personal interview conducted with a graduate of Palestinian Authority schools, Morav Mamoud, exposes the indoctrinated hate of this educational system. Although standard school subjects are studied, each is twisted to present its own anti-Israel view. Mr. Mamoud had on hand a history book of his cousins,' which reads as follows, "Asthma, Abu Bakr's daughter, was my age when she played a role in supplying provisions and water and passing information about Kuraish [Tribe] to the Prophet and his companion during their secret Hegira [emigration] from Mecca to Medina. What role can I play in order to support the national resistance movement against the occupier and colonialist?" (History of Arabs and Muslims, 34) Although Mr. Mamoud has received his higher education in the United States and since been de-programmed of all hateful propaganda, he realizes that his peers back home are still continuously brainwashed to believe that the only way to realize their self-determination is by the elimination of another people, despite a similar genealogical line shared with the Jews.

Each year, millions of dollars are given to the Palestinian Authority to be used for schools, infrastructure, healthcare, and summer camps that are supposed to be filled with friends and fun. Nearly all of this money is misused, but indeed some is set aside for the camps. However, they are not your typical youth retreat. The main activities include obstacle courses featuring a hoop of fire the children must jump through and many other para-military training courses. Bardia Mohammed, a former attendee of one of these camps, remembers seeing, “the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock, covered with human body parts and blood,” (Interview with Bardia Mohammed) alongside these courses. The children, both boys and girls, are conditioned to think that the only way to attain the stated goal of an independent Palestinian state is via violence, not communication and negotiation. These kids are given toy guns as infants, but real receive real fire weapons at the young age of ten.

A key concern in nearly every Near Eastern country is that of human rights, especially the rights of gay and lesbian citizens. Those who are gay are usually either jailed, prosecuted, or even murdered for their sexual preference. Homosexuality may be legal in the Palestinian Authority controlled government, but gays and lesbians do not have any protection from discrimination, hate crimes, or honor killings. It is condemned within the Koran, hence the policy is unforgiving to these people who are trying to live their lives in content of a manner as possible. As honor killings are not outlawed, there even come instances where a person will be publicly hung for the sexually immoral behavior, though rare. Palestinian Authority officials are typically found condemning Israel's stance on homosexuality, as it does not follow the basic ways shared by their faiths. Hence, many gays will, instead of facing personal danger, flee the Palestinian Authority controlled area for Israel to obtain the freedom to be who they truly are, while others spit on Israel for going against religion.

A primary concern amongst the world Jewry during the elections for the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority was that one of the strongest candidates for the office had written his dissertation denying the Holocaust had ever occurred. This candidate was Mahmoud Abbas, who did indeed continue on to win the race for the office which he now holds. He makes erroneous claims in his doctoral thesis, all of which are blatantly anti-Semitic and purely hateful. An excerpt from his writing exhibits this well, "A partnership was established between Hitler's Nazis and the leadership of the Zionist movement...[The Zionists gave] permission to every racist in the world, led by Hitler and the Nazis, to treat Jews as they wish, so long as it guarantees immigration to Palestine." (Palestinian Media Watch) A leader such as this, although claiming to the international media that he wants peace with Israel, cannot be acceptable in the political arena, for his entire educational outlook is founded upon the belief that the Jews are inherently evil and not to be reasoned with in any manner. This viewpoint has a highly detrimental effect to the people Abbas is treasured by as not only a political leader, but a national leader, for they will, too, involve themselves in the acceptance of fallacy versus reality.

Israel has made multiple attempts towards establishing a treaty with the various terrorist organizations that reside within its borders, including those controlled by the Palestinian Authority.

Hamas, the religious Muslim terror organization operating out of the Gaza strip, is set to run in the upcoming Palestinian Authority elections as a valid political party. The purpose of its existence is not only to eliminate the internationally recognized State of Israel, but the world's Jewish population as well, an idea that is frightfully becoming more common place in modern times. Especially in Gaza, Hamas has tremendous influence over the people. Since Arafat's government did not provide the basic necessities for which he was funded to do, Hamas has taken over the humanitarian position for many Gaza residents. This allows them the opportunity to spew their hatred for their neighbors and insist that the Jews gave up their right to the land, as they deviated from the original laws G-D gave them to follow.

Islamic fundamentalism, a return to fundamental principles of Islam by rigid adherence to those principles, and intolerance of other views and opposition to secularism, is on a steady rise in the Middle East, especially in the areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority. It is this government that influences its people to engage in detesting of the Jews and their attempt at a secure state in the land of Israel. Homicide/Suicide bombings have steadily risen in number since the establishment of a government in the Shomron (Northern West Bank), Yehuda (Southern West Bank), and the Gaza Strip. Kassam missiles have been shot into family homes throughout Israeli towns and settlements, in addition to being regularly stoned not only by Palestinian Arab citizens, but by members of organizations such as “Peace Now” and the “International Solidarity Movement,” who fall victim to the misrepresentation of reality in Israel and the Palestinian Authority controlled areas by the Palestinian government, who bases much of their portrayal of the Jews on purely religious ideals.

Life Lessons Learned From the Ghetto

A few disclaimers before I proceed:

My use of the term “Ghetto” is the commonly accepted, colloquial version. It is not in any way meant to demean those who come from lesser-income neighborhoods. Rather, it represents a subculture that has formed within American society.

Some content of the music videos in this article may be considered offensive or inappropriate for those under the age of 18. There is no nudity or blood or gang endorsement, but there may be scenes that depict situations related to the daily violence experienced on the streets or scantily-clad women.

I was blessed to grow up in a few multi-cultural neighborhoods. My bloodline also represents a variety of ethnicities. Nothing mentioned in this article is intended to be racist, prejudice, or segragationalist. Rather, this is a viewpoint from a person who has experienced these cultures and lifestyles on her own or via close friends or family.

Lesson One: Honor and Respect

Kanye West:

Living in the ghetto, honor is one of the most important things to maintain of oneself. Without honor, you will be treated as dust and nobody will take heed to what you have to say for yourself.

Lesson Two: Pride

Always be proud of who you are and where you came from. Never let anyone make fun of you because you have an accent, a skin-tint, almond-shaped eyes, or scrumptious homemade cuisine. Whether you're Vietnamese, Croatian, Indian, Samoan, Dominican, Eritrean, or whatever else, you must keep your head high. Don't be afraid to show your true colors by flaunting your flag or inviting your new somebody home to meet the parents.

Lesson Three: Passion

Do not only exhibit a thrill for everything you do, but actually feel that emotion. Put your whole-heart into the things that you love... You won't regret it. One of the young men,
Doral Miller, in the above photo (this was taken in high school when I was using a film camera... film?) is a prime example of the successes possible by following your passion.

Lesson Four: Enjoying the Moment

We have no idea how much time we truly have here. In the ghetto, you don't know what will happen next... Will there be a drive-by shooting that claims the life of a friend (my best-friend from high school was murdered earlier this year by a stray bullet, R.I.P. Kebret), will you experience an act of violence that will physically/financially/emotionally disable you (like arson)... the point is, you never know what G-D has in store for you, so live life to the fullest ... every second of it!

Lesson Five: Brotherhood

N.W.A.:

Your father left your mother, your mother is working full-time to support 3 kids. You need the emotional support and love of somebody. Brotherhood keeps young adults and teens together and in one piece. If your own family is not there for you, find people who are. Connect with each other, develop a bond, and be there through thick and thin for one another.

Lesson Six: Love

Because the rest of your life can be a hectic mess, you will always feel the need to have an escape. Find that one person who understands you and cares for you unconditionally. Once you have this person who gives you the same love they receive from you, hold on tight and treat them accordingly.

Lesson Seven: Loyalty

T.A.C.T. Family:

See Lesson Five. You learn through time who is really on your side and rooting for you in all you do. Do the same with your ideals and whatever you put yourself into. Loyalty pays off in the long-run... no one likes a flake.

Lesson Eight: Activism

Stand for your rights and what you believe in. If there is something wrong in your neighborhood, don't be afraid to be the first one to put your foot forward for change. Others will follow, trust in what's right and you'll succeed in pushing for it.

Lesson Nine: Soulfood

Tamales

Good food is to be eaten and enjoyed thoroughly. Throw all calorie counts out the window, there is nothing like a home-cooked meal. Imagine tamales con crema (sour cream) or some scrumptious barbecued beef sandwiches... Drooling yet? Here are a couple of recipes:

Chicken Tamales

BBQ Beef Sandwiches

Lumpia

Maluach

Lesson Ten: Real Women Have Curves

This is my light-hearted note for the topic. Men from the 'hood love a woman who has 'meat on her bones' and is a little 'thick.' Take note of the girls you see in the music videos. All have a round derrière, shapely hips, and strong legs.

Truthfully, there are many problematic issues involved in living the ghetto lifestyle. The main thing is to always look at the bright side of life and take it for what it's worth. Make the most of what you have, enjoy it, and live!

The Art of Playing the Israeli Dating Field

There is one thing that is an interesting art, to me, in Israel. It has to do with guys and girls and how they interact with one another. Girls, as we know, are notorious for wanting to have a serious relationship, and will usually try to make it work with just about anybody. The opposite is for guys, who, in turn, prefer to have something non-committal, but with all of the benefits of a relationship that is serious.

I've personally tried a variety of approaches. The let him call you only approach, which produces one of two results, generally. One, he doesn't call and you leave it at that. Two, he calls way too much and you just want to get him out of your sight/mind/etc. Another is the show you're totally interested approach, which is usually one that doesn't work, because then they guy will get scared. I had, however, done the opposite once, and I ran into the guy again later, when he said I should have called him more and we would have been something, like he and his new girlfriend ouch. The other is to call only occasionally, and to let him do the same to you. This sort of works, until he gets what he wants from you (or discovers he's not going to) and then he ceases calling you and you end up feeling like an idiot for calling too much.

Truthfully, I haven't found anything that works yet. I've seen girls get tons of guys all over them, and what are they left with in the end? Nothing serious. Guys come and go here, it's weird. Also, it's weird to see the guy who told you he is not sure if he wants anything serious to have a steady girlfriend all of the sudden.

So then the single girl residing in Israel starts to try to figure out what's wrong with her, that she can't get a serious, good, boyfriend. I remember a couple of times some guys who say they want to be friends with benefits and maybe let that grow into something, who knows. By the way, the "friends" thing is really ridiculous and they only want the benefits. But I have seen something like this work out to the girl's benefit to, and she ended up getting the guy...

My advice? Be yourself. Eventually someone will want to be serious, but keep your options open in the meantime. Until then, you will get a variety of guys (hot or not, nice or not, smart or not), and have fun playing them. Call them once every now and then (I recommend about 2 weeks for someone who doesn't call you so much, 1 week for someone who does - good to return the positive favor.) Also, if you see them regularly, don't call them regularly, either. Try to make a point of making half of the phone calls literally under 2 minutes each, and let it be about business (say, if the guy runs a business you like to frequent or has a service you or a friend could use, call only for that purpose... or to ask which bus line goes where, etc, you get the idea). Anytime you call him, let it be under 10 minutes (think about your phone bill!) but if he calls you, talk up to a half hour, maybe an hour if it's going super well and you just met him. SMS no more than twice a week.

I personally hated and still hate playing games, but what is a girl to do? These guys don't know what they want or are afraid to admit it, so you might as well manipulate them. Also, try to get out of them what you can (if it's a manager of a club, get in for free always. If it's an owner of a restaurant or store, get something for free. Hell, even if it's a soldier, see if he'll throw in a field uniform shirt for you - the dress uniforms are difficult to get too many of sometimes)

Oh yeah, and for any Israeli men reading this... you're either laughing because you know it's true or you're getting upset because you think it's not you. If it's the first, add (anonymously) what you think works to get one of you to commit. If it's the latter, email me! If we're not good for each other, chances are, I have plenty girls lined up that just might be.

Utopian Education

A student's atmosphere must be properly arranged to utilize a combination of the various aspects of their personality, mindset, and to advance them via mental stimulation. The goal of this utopia is to establish and support individual motivation so that each person has the ability and knowledge to be independent of others while being able to support their family and lifestyle.

Classrooms should be part of an octagonal design in a communal-architectural set up, emphasized by striking Gothic-shaped windows along six of the walls, and two doors on opposing sides of similar style to the windows. The windows would have a painting focusing on the subjects taught in the room. The shape of the room encourages a constant, steady flow of chi energy, which is meant to keep the students mentally active and engaged in their setting.

If one chooses to deviate his or her attention from the instructor or material, the surrounding windows would not provide a clear view to the outside. Without this clear view to the outside, the student would not become distracted by friends or activities occurring outside. The paintings provide a constant learning environment, even when all other teaching material has been placed out of sight. High ceilings with skylights will encourage the student to reach for their goals and not to place unreasonable limits on themselves.

Paint colors should be bright and mentally stimulating. The color scheme also needs to be adapted to the Feng Shui color-placement guide, such as white in the north to correlate with the water energy, green in the east to correlate with the tree energy, purple in the south to mesh with the fire energy, and red in the west to mix in with the metal energy. By blending the theme of hues according to supposed force for that direction, it creates a more positive aura for conducting a classroom full of children with varying personalities. For example, it will relax the anxious by placing them in the north, and stimulate the daydreamers if they are seated in the south.

Art will be organized by theme in each room. A more Baroque-era painting would be better situated on a wall in a classroom that is focused around the humanities. Abstract designs could find a place alongside mathematics, as the angular shapes represent a great opportunity to become engaged in things related to geometry and mathematical theory.

The art of the Impressionists will do nicely amongst language courses, since the small dots remind one of the small but extremely functional concepts of grammar and vocabulary, while a step taken back presents a complete, congruous view of the whole picture, insinuating to a student how learning a language may be a detailed task but it comes together in the end for a fully-finished result. Artifacts dated to the era before current shall be featured in rooms where the main instruction will be philosophy, archaeology, and the like. Each piece of art will provide in class evidence of the cause, importance, and effect of the artist and their society.

Certain educational materials will remain permanently in each room. There should be hands-on exhibits along the wall to provide the students with useful activity any time prior to or following instruction. A record of activity would be kept for each student at each station, as to relieve some of the difficulty in discerning for which path in life they would be most suited. Relevant posters and graphs will be placed on the outer walls of the structure, so if the children are outside socializing they still have the opportunity to learn something new or be reminded of a concept they have previously been taught.

A raised platform in the center of the room will be the primary podium of instruction. Desks will surround the podium, each simultaneously facing it despite location. This formation will encourage the student to focus on the lecture, as well as be able to more easily view their classmate who may either be asking a question or making a comment without turning their head, causing neck pain. The teacher will not have a personal desk in the individual classroom, instead having an office shared with one of their peers elsewhere in the school.

If the instructor had their private desk in a classroom, they would become possessive of the room and create their own rules. This would lead to a constrictive environment for the students, which is not conducive to a positive learning experience.

Based upon the school system in place, each student has a choice of one of eight main educational paths. These paths direct the child towards a more concentrated study of one area, while still obtaining core classes. The student's personal desk will be located in the classrooms in which their focused classes are conducted. This allows them access to it during the majority of the day.

In the classrooms where essential, generalized subjects are taught, the set up of student desks and instruction podium will be the same. Student desks, however, will not be personalized. They will be simplified structures with no more than a table and chair, so that the student will be less distracted than otherwise.

Each classroom will be adequately supplied with pens, markers, pencils, various types of paper, and other necessary equipment for students. This provides certainty that each child will have full access to these materials for various schoolwork and projects despite circumstances that may otherwise prevent them from having such access. Visual and audio enabled monitors will be placed in a fashion circling the instructive podium, facing outwards towards the students. They will be connected to the lecturer's computer, making presentations for the class easier and more vivid. Microphones will be placed at the podium and each student desk. This lets the softer-spoken person to be heard, and a person who may be slightly hard of hearing should be able to understand them.

A key feature of the school system is the personalized student desks. Each student will have a full-sized executive desk table available to him or her. In the desk can be found a series of drawers, each with a particularly useful function. In the bottom right area will be a door enclosing an area of shelves that contains the student's personal belongings. The top right will consist of a drawer with paper, staples, writing utensils, and similar general items.

A drawer in the top left is meant to hold more specified materials according to the educational path of the desk's occupier. Filing folders will fill a large drawer on the bottom left. This is meant to keep the student organized with the large amount of material they would accumulate during the school's semester. The desktop can modestly reflect the interests and personality of the child. It must have a clear space in the middle for in progress projects. On the left side of the desk will be a small end table consisting of a printer on the top and the student's textbooks placed on the shelves below the printer. The chair will allow for moderate swivel-type movement, reach to the height of the head in the back, and have a low negative anatomical impact.

A proper environment is crucial to enhancing the learning experience of a student. A combination of the classroom and the individual student desk provides a more dignified setting, while concurrently inspiring advanced thought and individuality. The goal of this utopia is not to create replicate drones, but instead to find a harmonizing balance of personas in a complex society.

Yonah: The Green Sea Turtle

It was a picturesque night, walking along the main promenade in Tel Aviv. The Mediterranean Sea beneath the full September moon glistened. I was with my friend Joey here at about midnight, because neither of us could sleep, and we both needed a breather from a seemingly never-ending to-do-list.

Joey suggested a move from the cement to the sand, for a little variation, on the return leg of our stroll. While walking past many posh on-the-beach bars with beautiful colored lights and hip lounge music, I noticed something on the water line. I originally thought it was a trash bag or some other junk (even though Tel Aviv beaches are generally clean). Joey assumed that it could be a fallen satellite or who knows what.

A few steps closer, and we saw it was a sea turtle! This is an exciting moment, because Green Sea Turtles are a very rare sight in Israel, especially in such a populated area. There are only a few thousand in the Mediterranean Sea, and their main breeding grounds for the region are in Croatia, not here. They are an endangered species throughout the world, and even more sparse in the Mediterranean area.

Unfortunately, this exciting visit by our lovely friend was for a not so lovely reason. Further evaluation brought to our attention that she was missing an entire front flipper, and part of the remaining bone was still sticking out. There was fishing line wrapped all around it, and the line also went to her mouth, which led us to believe she might have a hook stuck.

Immediately, we called the 106 service number for the Israel Nature & National Parks Protection Authority. A dispatcher took the basic information, my phone number, and within minutes a man named Yaniv called me back. Once he found out all he needed to know about our Green Sea Turtle, he rushed to her rescue, commanding us to stay and hang out with her until he arrived.

Joseph LeMaire, Yonah, and an onlooker
Photo Credit: Yaniv Levy, Israel Nature and Parks Authority

During that hour, we were trying every way possible to not allow her to go back into the water. If she did, she would surely die, if she ever made it fully out. She constantly tried to turn herself around towards the sea, as minimal amounts of water lapped against her barnacle covered shell. We found a muscular Israeli guy to pick her up out of the water and bring her to the dry area of the sand.

We talked to her, people walking by stopped to visit and inquire about this odd scene on the nighttime beach, and we even gave her a name.

Joseph LeMaire and Yonah
Photo Credit: Yaniv Levy, Israel Nature and Parks Authority

Introducing, Yonah, the Green Sea Turtle. She is an Eighties baby, about 25 years old now. We decided on the name Yonah (English translation: Jonah), being that we were only a few minutes walk/swim from the Old Jaffa Port area, where the original Jonah, from the Bible, began his seaborne journey, and in the end, was saved.

Finally, Yaniv arrived to carry Yonah off to what will be her new home until she is taken care of and fully rehabilitated. Before bringing her to the truck, Yaniv took some awesome photos of Yonah.

Yonah, trying to escape the city
Photo Credit: Yaniv Levy, Israel Nature and Parks Authority

Another random Israeli, named Boaz, assisted Yaniv and Joey in transporting her to the truck. She's a quite strong young lady, with a strong spirit to match. She exhibited this to us openly, which we're happy to see, because we know she will not only survive, but also succeed, when she is released into her natural habitat.

How To Be A Player: The Guide For The Single Woman

Attract

If Looks Could Kill

Always look presentable, but don't always dress "to the nines." If you do, men will know you're only trouble. Modesty is nicer/doable, but do accessorize and try to bring out your best aspects at all times.

Always Move Forward

When flirting, do play coy, but do not be passive. If the window of opportunity is soon closing, be direct and go talk to him. (Don't wait until the train is pulling into the station and you are headed in different directions.)

Get A Little Toothy

Smile a lot, but don't overdo it. Make sure it's genuine. If you can laugh a little, it helps (unless you have a Fran Drescher laugh).

Innocent Angel

When speaking, tilt your chin downwards and let your eyes look up into his (don't stare, but don't lose eye contact, either). Also, don't speak too much and stick to simple questions, unless you two for sure have a common "niche" interest.

Play

Who's In Control?

Let him think he's choosing the spot/time for the date. Do pop in "suggestions." Stay in control, while letting him think that he is.

Watch Your Surroundings

Never, ever, date a guy from the same neighborhood/workplace/school. Make sure the men you are dating will not have a high chance of running into each other, especially when you're with one.

Miss Coy

Tease him, but rarely give into what he wants, and never on the first date. (Includes kissing, sex, and anything else you don't really want to do. If he doesn't call you back after this date, he's either a pervert or a player himself.)

One And Only

Tell him one "secret" or something unique about you that not everybody knows. It shouldn't be something anyone can blackmail you with, though. This makes him feel like he's your special one.

Precautions

Falling In Love

So, you're starting to get butterflies in your stomach? Stop right there! You could be falling, and hard, for this guy. The best way to avoid this is to not conjure up any thoughts of a long-term relationship with the men you are playing. Do not invest an exuberant amount of time meeting their friends and trying to get to know their family.

Playing A Player

There is just something about him. What is it? He almost reminds you, of, well, you. Could he be a player, too? You have two options, both of which will easily affect your pride. One: You can continue to play him, just for the satisfaction of out-doing him. You really should be an expert, and know it, to try something like this. If you don't, you will greatly hurt your self-esteem and maybe even your heart.

Getting Caught

You think you're slick, now that you know the basics, right? Well, there's still always the risk of being caught. To Adam, who spots you with the other guy, you simply tell him that the man you are with is a co-worker/business associate/classmate. Once Adam leaves, explain to David that Adam is a jealous ex-boyfriend, with whom you prefer to avoid further complications with.

Playing It Safe

Keeping yourself safe is the highest priority throughout the entire process. I wish I could tell you that all men can be used as doormats, and if they find out, won't mind or will leave quietly. The reality is, men have a big ego, bigger than even how much they imagine a part of their anatomy to be. Please try to avoid men who show any sign at all of emotional or mental imbalance. The last thing you need is a stalker.

My beautiful ladies: Please keep in mind that all of the above should never be used as a permanent lifestyle. If you are looking for a little fun, a way to mix things up, then do play a little. However, the ultimate goal in mind should be to find a wonderful, caring life partner, with whom you can have a healthy reciprocal relationship.

Nine Favorite Places for Office Sex

So it's another late night in the office. All of my co-workers have gone home. My mind starts wandering a bit while I continue to work. A dirty hip-hop song comes on, the kind I grew up with, about a particular rapper having the "magic stick."

Suddenly, a friend messages me, someone a little long distance. We chat normally, but I do know how damn sexy he his, and it gets me to thinking... this is the perfect time for office sex. I've figured out there are about 9 places to try this:

Desk:

A classic idea. Must be sturdy, though... that is, if the guy knows what he's doing.

Swivel Chair:

Comfortable like crazy. And it twists, must I say any more?

Floor:

There must be a clean spot somewhere... a bit cold, though.

Sofa:

Why is it so damn comfortable? I know it's not for the people who sit there a grand total of 10 minutes waiting for an interview.

Stairs:

Probably the best for those short-tall couples. This way, the shorter one can go up higher to a more suitable level for the taller one.

Kitchenette:

The counter, definitely. Sit on the slab of marble and let the guy stand.

Bathroom:

A classic idea for those who think they're "kinky." Yet, still a goody, considering it offers the most privacy.

Roof:

Seriously, does anyone ever go out on the roof at your job? The only risk you have is being seen from the building next door that's a few floors higher.

Wall:

This can be a little tough to maneuver... but not if the man lifts you, then he only works a little bit harder.

Editor's Pick: The Elevator

On an ending note: I really wouldn't mind usage of the corporate jet about now, to fly that handsome man over here... so he can make me fly. *smirk*
