The Aztecs began as four discrete Nahuatl-speaking tribes — Achlhua, Chichimecs, Mexica, and Tepanecs— who migrated from the north into the Central Valley of Mexico in the early 13th century.

Aztlán: The Legendary Aztec City

Aztlán is the legendary first city of the Aztecs, apparently located in what is now the American Southwest. No physical location has even been found, and much of the Aztec oral traditions have been lost. Like the Seven Cities of Gold, Aztlán has acquired a magical reputation.

Aztec Gods

The Genesis creation story states that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.” This one sentence states that there is only one God. The Aztecs, however, believed in many gods (thirteen to be precise).
