Soon after the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the People's Liberation Army entered Tibet finally resulting in the 17-point Agreement concluded between China and Tibet in May 1951. This agreement caused conflict between China and Tibet, which later resulted in the escape of the fourteenth Dalai Lama.
