Lucius Apuleius was a rhetorician, satirist, and author of the only Roman novel to have been preserved in complete form. His surviving works include the Apologia (The Apology or On Magic), a treatise he wrote to defend himself against a charge of using magic to entrance a wealthy widow into marriage, a collection of his works under the title Florida, and some philosophical treatises.
