Presidential Pardons - Not Just For Feathered Turkeys!

Flyer and Fryer were pardoned on the White House lawn, as is traditional for the day before Thanksgiving. This action made me stop and wonder who would else the President would pardon before he leaves office. Here are a few names I'm personally nominating for the dubious honor.

Somalia War Crimes - The World Must Act to End the Bloodshed

United Nations officials acknowledge that war crimes have been committed in Somalia. To end the bloodshed, the international community must call for war crimes investigations, demand an immediate withdrawal of Ethiopian forces, provide humanitarian aid to the displaced and support the establishment of a civil society driven peace process.

Most people have heard of the concentration camps run by the Nazis during the Second World War and of the punishments dealt to the people who ran these camps. Fewer people are aware that the Japanese Imperial Army also had such camps and that the men who ran them were treated as heroes and celebrities after the war.

Corporate war crimes involve for-profit organizations in the illegal use of military violence. Corporations are routinely involved in supporting state violence in locations in which they face opposition (e.g., oil companies in Colombia and Nigeria), or they may be directly involved in military operations (e.g., the expanding market in private military or mercenary companies).
